When you think of home automation, the most common functions would be:

  • To operate the lighting of your home
  • Operate entertainment/AV equipment on and off
  • Adjust the cooling systems in your home

Its the basic functions that we are all familiar with when it comes to automating your home. But did you know that this is not only what home automation systems are capable of, there are other minor areas that the public is unaware of? We found 3 areas of home automation which even surprised us:

1. Accessing Home At Random Hours

This is a great tool for the parents, especially if your kids are at the age they begin to go out and only arrive during the early hours of the morning. A lot of the times, when you ask them what time they arrived home, most commonly they will give you a reply that they arrived semiyearly(1 am for example) rather than admitting to arriving as the sun is rising. With a home automation system installed in your home, you will be able to access the security log page, which will highlight the exact time the door was opened/motion was detected.

2. Scheduled Notifications

If you are someone who tends to forget things easily, this is where home automation can come in handy for you. If you have scheduled something important or something you know you may forget, you can set up the system to audibly notify you of the task scheduled for the day, or set up a notification system to send you a text message notifying you of the scheduled tasks.

3. Lights Left On, Front Door Left Unlocked

This element of home automation is something that you commonly hear and wasn’t that much of a surprise to us at AVT Solutions, but to some who are unfamiliar with automation, this may surprise them. Especially if you have to leave home for work in the early hours of the morning, or if you left home in a rush. Commonly, the last thing on your mind would be if you left the front door unlocked or a light on. Lucky for you, by using a remote device  (Tablets, I-Pads, I-Phones), you can instantly operate any lights by turning them off if any were left open, and if you mistakenly left the door unlocked, you can lock the door with a press of a button.
